London members might be interested in a great programme of films which celebrates 75 years of the UK distributor, Contemporary Films which was founded by Charles Cooper in 1951. His daughters, Adi and Sue Cooper, have organized a season of screenings and events around the Contemporary collection across London with the current MD, Pete Lawley.
Contemporary Films played a major role in distributing independent and arthouse films in Britain, including via the wonderful Academy cinema, formerly in Oxford Street and the Phoenix, East Finchley, now a community cinema. They released the work of women directors such as Chantal Akerman, Lizzie Borden, Patricia Rozema and Jane Campion.
