Before You Apply

The British Cinema & Television Veterans is an association with the following objective: To promote contact, friendship and good fellowship between members through visits, meetings and the publication of the members magazine THE VETERAN.

It is essential that all applications must contain all the information of your 25 year career in the industry, and indicate whether for Cinema or Television Exhibition, and where possible the start and finish dates of the projects you were involved. If any of the requested information is not supplied your application may be delayed.

Information for Applicants

1. The British Cinema and Television Veterans is an association with the following objective: To promote contact, friendship and good fellowship between members through visits, meetings and the publication of the members magazine THE VETERAN.
 
2. It is essential that all applications must contain all the information of your 25 year career in the industry, and indicate whether for Cinema or Television Exhibition, and where possible the start and finish dates of the projects you were involved. If any of the requested information is not supplied your application may be delayed.
 
a) British cinema exhibition includes: film distribution, suppliers to cinema including services such as the provision of screen advertising or equipment.
 
b) British film and television production covers: cinema feature films, short films, commercials or any material of a fictional or documentary nature that receives a UK theatrical release, is transmitted on terrestrial satellite, cable television or released as copyrighted material on associated media such as video and video on demand. We also recognise Stage to Screen work (live performances beamed to cinemas).
 
c) Related production: covers services such as studios, film laboratories, digital film distribution, film libraries and special effects and facility houses.
 
3. All applicants must be proposed and seconded by an existing member.

4. Upon acceptance, an entrance fee is payable, together with an annual subscription at the prevailing dates. Members joining after October 1st pay an annual subscription pro rata for that year. Upon reaching 85 years of age members cease to pay an annual subscription and honorary membership is given in their own right to those persons who upon the death of a member are widows, widowers or civil partners of the deceased.
 
5. The benefits of membership are as follows:
  • A copy of THE VETERAN, currently published three times a year, which also includes the Film & TV Charity newsletter.
  • A BCTV lapel badge.
  • A BCTV pen.
6. If you meet the additional criteria below, you could be eligible for a cinema pass.

The majority of British cinema exhibitors and UK film distributors have agreed that, in recognition and appreciation of the contribution made by those BCTV members, who have worked exclusively or primarily in the theatrical sector for an absolute minimum of TWO YEARS, the BCTV can issue a pass for the benefit of such members which will admit
them and a guest free of charge to certain film performances.
 
PLEASE NOTE

The cinema pass may only be awarded to those members who have worked in any capacity in a British cinema, in theatrical distribution or behind the camera production of a sufficient number of fictional, documentary or advertising films (whether digital or film) that have received a theatrical release in British cinemas. Any periods of time applicants have been involved in teaching, mentoring or lecturing on film related subjects at Registered Film Schools and University Film Degree Courses, could be taken into account when assessing eligibility for membership. The issue of the pass is at the absolute discretion of the BCTV and may be withdrawn at any time.

Your Membership Card/Cinema Pass

The BCTV membership card/cinema pass admits the member named (and whose photograph appears on this card) and one guest, to performances starting before 6.00 pm on Mondays to Thursdays (except Bank Holidays) at Cineworld, Curzon, Empire, Everyman, The Light, Odeon, Picturehouse, Showcase and Vue Cinemas, and many other cinemas also operated by members of the UK Cinema Association.
